Johanna Kandl

Johanna Kandl was born in Vienna, Austria, in 1954. She studied conservation and technology from 1972 to 1977 and painting with Wolfgang Hollegha at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna from 1977 to 1980. She completed both studies with a diploma. In 1979-1980 she studied painting in parallel at the University of Arts Belgrade (then Yugoslavia), Serbia, with Radenko Mišević, graduating with a diploma in 1980. Since 1997 she has been working with Helmut Kandl. In 1995 she was awarded the Prize of the City of Vienna and in 2000 the Recognition Prize for Fine Arts of the Province of Lower Austria. From 2005 to 2013 she was a professor at the University of Applied Arts, Vienna. Johanna Kandl lives and works in Vienna and Berlin.
