Josef Dabernig
Josef Dabernig was born in 1956 in Kötschach-Mauthen, Austria. From 1975 to 1983 he studied sculpture with Ferdinand Welz and sculpture with Joannis Avramidis at the Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna. After his studies, the artist increasingly worked across media and turned to film. He has been producing short films since 1996. Works by Dabernig were shown during Manifesta 3, Ljubljana and the Biennale di Venezia (2001 and 2003). With his short films he participated in international film festivals in Locarno (2002 and 2008), London (2009), Mar del Plata (2007), Melbourne (2001), Oberhausen (2006, 2009 and 2014), Rotterdam (2000) and Toronto (2006 and 2009). In 2002 he was awarded the City of Vienna Prize for Fine Arts. In 2007 he was awarded the Würdigungspreis für bildende Kunst of the Federal Ministry for Education, the Arts and Culture. Josef Dabernig lives in Vienna.
