Renate Kowanz-Kocer
Renate Kowanz-Kocer was born in Vienna in 1954, where she studied graphic arts with Oswald Oberhuber at the University (then College) of Applied Arts from 1974 to 1978. Her work, which includes installation, performance, film and video, deals with the creation of sound and image spaces through the use of body movements and gestures. Image and sound, visual and auditory sensory impressions are always closely related. Kowanz-Kocer has participated in notable group exhibitions, including 1980 Museum Moderner Kunst Stiftung Ludwig, Vienna), 1982 Kunsthaus Zürich, 1992 Palais Thurn und Taxis, Bregenz, 2000 Generali Foundation, 2002 Kunsthalle Exnergasse, Vienna, 2006 Salzburger Kunstverein and 2019-2020 at Museum Moderner Kunst Salzburg. Performances by Renate Kowanz-Kocer took place at festivals such as the Wiener Festwochen in 1983, Ars Electronica in Linz in 1987 and steirischer herbst, Graz.
