Tony Oursler
Tony Ourlser was born in New York, USA, in 1957. He studied at Rockland Community College, Suffern in New York and from 1979 at the California Institute of the Arts, Valencia, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA). In 1977 he formed the punk band Poetic (-1983) with Mike Kelley. He has participated in numerous major group and solo exhibitions, including documenta 8 in 1987, documenta IX in 1992 and documenta X (with Mike Kelley) in Kassel in 1997. In 1996 he received the Arnold Bode Prize (founder of documenta) from the city of Kassel, Germany. Other exhibition venues include Kunsthaus Bregenz, Austria (2009); Kunstmuseum Bonn, Germany (2007); Centre Pompidou, France (2006); Kunsthalle Düsseldorf, Germany (2005) and Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein (1999); Zentrum für Kunst und Medientechnologie (ZKM), Karlsruhe, Germany (2003); Tel Aviv Museum of Art, Israel (1999); Whitney Museum of American Art, New York (2000); Hirshhorn Museum-Smithsonian Institution, Washington D. C. (1998), and the Aspen Art Museum, Aspen, USA (1997). Tony Ourlser lives and works in Manhattan, New York.
