Walter Kölbl
Walter Kölbl was born in 1948 in Hard, Vorarlberg, Austria. From 1969 to 1975 he studied sculpture at the University (then College) of Applied Arts in Vienna with Hans Knesl and Wander Bertoni. From 1976 to 1980 he completed studies in metal design with Carl Auböck. After a one-year scholarship at the Austrian Cultural Institute in Rome, he finalized his education. From 1980 to 1986 Kölbl was a university assistant at the Vienna University of Technology at the Institute for Plastic Design and Model Making and received a state scholarship from the Federal Ministry of Science and Research. Since 1987 Walter Kölbl worked as a sculptor in a sculpture studio of the federal government in the Vienna Prater and in Vorarlberg. Solo exhibitions took place at the Palais Thurn & Taxis in Bregenz and at the Vienna Secession, among others. On the occasion of his 70th birthday, the provincial capital of Bregenz dedicated a solo exhibition to the artist in 2018. Walter Kölbl lives and works in Vienna.
