Farocki’s montage is inspired by a doubt that inserts itself between two images. This doubt is inscribed as a motto in an epilogue that precedes the film As You See: this takes the form of a comment on a kind of involuntary picture puzzle, a drawing that shows a plow, which could also be a cannon and vice versa. “The plow only serves to provide a support for the cannon” is the comment, and then:“War is based on working for a living.” (Christa Blümlinger)
