Creischer, Alice/Andreas Siekmann

Alice Creischer, born in Gerolstein in 1960, studied philosophy and German language and literature at the University of Düsseldorf and fine arts at the Düsseldorf Art Academy. Andreas Siekmann was born in 1961 in Hamm and studied free art at the Düsseldorf Art Academy. Both live and work in Berlin.

Alice Creischer and Andreas Siekmann work individually and together as artists, authors, among others for the art magazines Springerin, ANYP and Texte zur Kunst, and since the 1990s as curators. Among other things, they have curated Violence on the Margin of All Things (2002) at the Generali Foundation, Vienna. They make curating itself a theme, along with the systems of presentation and installation of art, which they link to a questioning of aestheticization through the "white cube". They critically examine and artistically undermine sets of rules. They deal discursively with politics, society, structures of power and powerlessness that are reflected in wealth and poverty, and generally with economic relations in historical contexts, as well as with the privatization of public space and the changing labor relations due to globalization. In 2004 Alice Creischer and Andreas Siekmann presented their exhibition Ex Argentina - an artistic and economic critical investigation of the economic crisis in Argentina in an international context at the Museum Ludwig in Cologne; further solo exhibitions took place with Das Potosi Prinzip at the Museo Reina Sofia in Madrid and at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin (2010). At Kunstraum Lakeside in Carinthia, Austria, they realized the permanent project Monopolartige Produktionen. In 2002 Andreas Siekmann participated in documenta 11 and in 2007 they both participated in Documenta 12 in Kassel. In 2016 Andreas Siekmann received the Konrad von Soest Prize.
